What this service is

Host Dada Secrets lets you send a short piece of confidential text, or a file, as a link that can be opened once. It is provided by Host Dada as a free tool.

Acceptable use

Don’t use this service to:

  • • Share material that is unlawful, or that you have no right to share.
  • • Distribute malware, phishing content or stolen credentials.
  • • Harass anyone, or send unsolicited bulk email through the email feature.
  • • Attempt to read secrets that were not sent to you.

We may suspend an account that breaks these rules. Because we cannot read the contents of a secret, enforcement is based on reports and on patterns of use.

No guarantee of delivery

A secret is destroyed the first time it is opened. If a mail scanner, a colleague or anyone else opens the link before your intended recipient, the secret is gone and we cannot recover it — there is no copy. Treat anything you share this way as compromised if it is opened unexpectedly.

Secrets and files are also destroyed at expiry whether or not they were read. A download that is interrupted part-way cannot be restarted — the file is already gone. Don’t use this service as storage, and keep your own copy of anything you send.

Files sent by other people

Files are encrypted as they arrive, before anything is written to disk, using a key derived from the one-time link itself which we never store. That is what protects your file — and it also means that once stored, we cannot read, inspect or virus-scan what is inside it.

We restrict which file types can be sent and reject documents containing macros, embedded JavaScript and other active content. These checks reduce risk but cannot catch everything, and they are not a substitute for antivirus software.

Any file you download through this service was uploaded by another user, not by Host Dada. We do not create, review, endorse or take responsibility for its contents. You download it at your own risk, and you should only open a file from someone you already trust and were expecting it from. Host Dada accepts no liability for any loss or damage caused by a file uploaded by a third party.

Liability

The service is provided as-is, without warranty. Host Dada is not liable for any loss arising from use of the service, including a secret being read by the wrong person or not being read at all.
